In this article, we're going to walk you through everything you need to know to set up and use your brand new FIRMAN T08071 tri-fuel generator. With 8000W of running power, this powerhouse can power many home appliances to keep you running during an outage.
Keep in mind that we'll assume, for this article, that the fuel used is gasoline.
As always, please keep safety top of mind when starting and operating this equipment. Please refer to the FIRMAN Owner's Manual that you will receive along with the generator and strictly adhere to all safety guidelines.
Now, let's dig into how to operate the T08071!
1. First, Pick A Location
Remove the generator from the box and place it on flat, level ground that is far from low hanging trees, bushes, dwellings with people, and anything flammable. For more detailed safety specifics, check out our article we published about choosing a safe spot for your generator.
2. Oil It Up
For this generator, 10W-30 API SL oil is best, but you are also able to use other high quality detergent oils (API SL or higher) if you would like. Be careful to only start the engine once the proper oils has been added.
You'll want the oil to come up to no higher than the 'H' mark. Although you won't have to fill the oil each time you use it, it's a good idea to check each time.
3. Add Gasoline
You'll want to use unleaded gas, 87 octane or higher. For this model, you can use up to 10% ethanol.
Fill the tank to the red fuel indicator and no further! Adding too much gas can cause a fire.
4. Start The Generator
4a. Check to make sure the air cleaner, fuel cap, muffler, and spark plug are in their correct places.
4b. Next, ensure that the LPG knob and NG source valves are closed or disconnected. Remember, this guide is focused on gasoline.
4c. Turn the main fuel selector switch to 'GAS'.
4d. Make sure that you don't have anything plugged into the generator. You should never start a portable generator with loads connected.
4e. Move the choke lever to the start position. If the engine is warm, you can skip this step.
4f. If you are starting with recoil start, resist the temptation to yank the cord right away. Instead, pull the cord slowly until you feel some resistance. Then pull rapidly to start the engine.
4g. For using the electric start, flip the engine switch to the 'START II' position. Do this for a few seconds.
4h. When the engine has started, move the choke slowly over to the RUN position. Give the generator a few minutes to warm up prior to adding any loads.
5. Connect Electrical Loads
First, test the GFCIs to ensure they are working properly. (A GFCI is a type of outlet that helps protect against electrical shock.)
To test them, first press the test button. The reset button should pop out. Then, push the reset button. It should lock into place. In the instance it does not do this, technical assistance is needed - call 1-844-347-6261 for expert technical help.
Next, plug in your first load. Start with the largest (highest Wattage) load, and work your way down to the smaller loads as needed. Make sure you do not exceed the running wattage of 8000W.
After plugging in your load, allow the engine to stabilize before connecting further loads.
6. Turning The Generator Off
Once you're done using the portable generator, turn off your loads and remove them from the generator while it's still running.
Once all loads are removed, allow the generator to idle for about a minute. This gives the machine a chance to stabilize its internal temperature.
Then turn the main fuel selector switch 'OFF'.
And that's a wrap! We sincerely hope you enjoy using your FIRMAN T08071 tri fuel generator. None of the directions above should take the place of carefully consulting the Owner's Manual.
